"From very old vines, showing darker fruit and more depth. Controlled power, subtle mocha notes and a refined, careful structure."
Stewart Pryce, Honest Grapes Wine Club Manager
Domaine Jean Tardy is a quietly brilliant Côte de Nuits estate, founded by Jean Tardy after years as a share-cropper for Méo-Camuzet, and expanded under his son Guillaume since 1997. The domaine now spans Fixin to Vosne-Romanée, with all wines bottled by individual vineyard.
The 2024 vintage was one of the most challenging since 2013, marked by frost, heavy rainfall and severe mildew pressure, reducing yields to just 18 hl/ha. Picked early to preserve freshness, the resulting wines are delicate, subtle and finely balanced rather than powerful, with clarity of fruit and gentle structure very much to the fore.
Fully destemmed and softly extracted, the reds emphasise aromatic purity and smooth tannins over force. This is a vintage for finesse and drinkability, offering real pleasure across the range.
What the critics say:
"100% new wood, so tasted from one such, from the Tronçais forest. The colour is a vibrant ruby purple. The oak is present but not awkwardly dominant. There is plenty of red berry fruit too. Much plusher on the plate without losing the delicacy of Echezeaux. The improvements since 2023 have really paid off. *4/5*"
"Here too the wood treatment is prominent if not dominant with its spicier and beautifully layered aromas of both red and dark currant, exotic tea and floral highlights. The rich, velvety and utterly delicious larger-bodied flavors possess a highly seductive, even lush, mouthfeel while delivering excellent length on the firm, powerful and sappy finale. This possesses fine development potential yet it should be approachable young if desired."
