In 2023, Guillaume Tardy began the harvest on September 11, seizing the warm, dry window before rain arrived. This vintage also marked a new chapter for the estate, with Tardy introducing a gentle destemmer designed to preserve the integrity of each grape without breaking the skins, resulting in wines with refined perfumes and softer tannins. The 2023s show a shift toward elegance and suppleness, moving away from previous vintages' emphasis on power.
"This 100% new oak-aged grand cru offers plush, elegant dark red fruit, showing intense texture and depth. The finish is long and plump, underscoring its richness and finesse."
Our note
The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness with sugar levels between 12.5-13% and a pH of 3.4-3.5. Yields averaged 45-48 Hl/Ha, except for Échezeaux at 40 Hl/Ha. Bottling is expected in February. By contrast, 2024 yielded just 53 barrels (compared to 120 in 2023), as difficult growing conditions took a toll, although quality remains promising.
What the critics say:
"All in new oak as usual. The deepest colour of all the wines but still lively. A little sandalwood perfume from the oak, which is otherwise not unduly intrusive. Cherry and sweet raspberry fruit, pleasingly nuanced. Supple and persistent with classy red fruit, and a little cream from the oak at the back. Drink from 2031-2038. Tasted Nov 2024."
"Pungent aromas of wood and reduction dominate the underlying fruit at present. More interesting are the exceptionally supple, round and easy-going flavors that possess a highly seductive mouthfeel while tightening up on the moderately austere, firm, complex and sneaky long finale. This is deceptively forward because it should be capable of repaying at least a decade of cellar time."
