Optimal drinking window: Now - 2033

Whether crafting wines from the Côte-d'Or, Beaujolais, or her native Victoria, Jane's wines exude her distinct style - delicate and inviting, adorned with supple tannins and vibrant, luscious fruits.

Through gentle extraction techniques, thoughtful oak usage, and early bottling, Jane  creates Burgundies that are accessible and appealing even in their early stages.

Currently showing primary cherry fruit with integrated oak and spice, this wine will begin opening up properly from 2027 as the components marry further. The whole-bunch element will become more seamlessly woven into the fabric over the next year or two, whilst the fruit will develop more complex, earthy secondary characters. Expect peak drinking between 2028-2031, when the mineral backbone will be most evident and the wine shows its truest Côte de Nuits character. After 2033, the fruit may begin to fade, though Jane's gentle extraction suggests graceful ageing rather than abrupt decline.

Tasting Notes

AppearanceMid-crimson with purple highlights, showing youthful vibrancy.

NoseDark cherries lead, followed by gentle spice from the whole-bunch component. There's a floral lift that speaks to the limestone soils, with subtle oak integration. The fruit feels concentrated but not heavy, showing Jane's deft touch with extraction.

PalateSilky entry with immediate cherry fruit appeal, then the structure emerges gradually. The tannins are supple and well-integrated, whilst the whole-bunch fermentation adds textural interest and a hint of pepper on the back palate. Good mineral tension prevents this from feeling too easy-going.

FinishFine length with persistent cherry fruit and a gentle spice note that lingers pleasantly.

Overall impressionThis captures everything appealing about modern Burgundy without losing its sense of place.

Food Pairings

In Burgundy, this would find its way to tables laden with coq au vin, where the wine's cherry fruit and gentle spice complement the dish's richness without overwhelming it. Local charcuterie, particularly jambon persillé with its herbs and wine jelly, makes a natural match. The wine's supple tannins work beautifully with the region's famous Époisses cheese, whilst roasted guinea fowl with wild mushrooms echoes the earthy, spiced character that emerges on the palate. Even simple dishes like beef bourguignon benefit from this wine's combination of fruit and structure.

FAQs

What does this wine taste like?

Dark cherries with silky tannins and gentle spice, offering immediate pleasure whilst showing proper Burgundian structure and energy.

When should I drink this wine?

Ready to enjoy from 2027 and at its best until 2033, though approachable now for those who prefer primary fruit character.

What food pairs well with this wine?

Perfect with roasted poultry, charcuterie, or mushroom dishes. The supple tannins work beautifully with soft cheeses like Époisses or Camembert.

How should I serve this wine?

Serve slightly cool at 15-16°C. A brief 30-minute decant helps integration, but it's delicious straight from the bottle in a proper Burgundy glass.

Is this wine worth cellaring?

Yes, but for refinement rather than transformation. It will develop more complexity over 2-3 years and show its best Côte de Nuits character around 2028-2031.

How does this compare to other Burgundies?

More immediately approachable than most village Burgundies, with Jane Eyre's signature gentle style making it perfect for those wanting classic character without the wait.

OUR GROWERS

Jane Eyre

When we first met Jane in 2015, we were amazed to hear that her wines didn’t have a presence in the UK (with a name like Jane Eyre, how could we resist bringing her wines to the UK market?). It’s been a real pleasure to see how her reputation has grown with accompanied critical acclaim from luminaries such as Jancis Robinson, Tim Atkin, and Neal Martin. More recently she received her RVF second star and was also awarded Negociant of the Year 2020.
