In 2023, Guillaume Tardy began the harvest on September 11, seizing the warm, dry window before rain arrived. This vintage also marked a new chapter for the estate, with Tardy introducing a gentle destemmer designed to preserve the integrity of each grape without breaking the skins, resulting in wines with refined perfumes and softer tannins. The 2023s show a shift toward elegance and suppleness, moving away from previous vintages' emphasis on power.
"This cuvée reveals deep blue and black fruit with sappy, juicy characteristics. The tannic core is fine yet inviting, showcasing the impact of the gentle destemmer in producing a more refined wine. 30 barrels produced, with 25% new oak planned for 2024."
Our note
The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness with sugar levels between 12.5-13% and a pH of 3.4-3.5. Yields averaged 45-48 Hl/Ha, except for Échezeaux at 40 Hl/Ha. Bottling is expected in February. By contrast, 2024 yielded just 53 barrels (compared to 120 in 2023), as difficult growing conditions took a toll, although quality remains promising.
What the critics say:
"The 2023 Côte de Nuits-Villages Aux Boulardes has a little more cohesion and brightness than the Hautes-Côtes. Its pure red fruit notes blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant crunchiness, a crisp line of acidity plus gentle grip on the fresh finish. Enjoy this well-crafted Côte de Nuits-Villages over the next four to five years."
