Clemens and his wife Rita are the charming and humble couple behind Clemens Busch, a winery that has gained a cult following over the past three decades for their laser-sharp, richly textured, terroir-defined wines.

Among the first German winemakers to embrace organic farming in 1984, their estate fully transitioned to biodynamic production in 2005.  They are members of the prestigious VDP organisation of the top producers in Germany.

This dry Riesling comes from the "Fahrlay" parcel within the Marienburg vineyard, one of Busch's most prized sites, noted for its distinctive blue slate soils. As a GL, Großes Lage wine, it represents the highest quality designation in German winemaking, akin to a Grand Cru.

The hallmark of this wine is its sharp minerality, driven by the blue slate soils, which gives it a steely, almost salty character. The wine has a linear, focused profile with vibrant acidity that provides freshness and lift, despite the warm vintage.

What the critics say:

98/100Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate

"The 2018 Marienburg Fahrlay Reserve is enormously intense and concentrated on the nose, offering super ripe fruit intertwined with spicy slate aromas. Rich and baroque on the palate yet crystalline, saline and refined, this is a dense, powerful, finely tannic and still slightly bitter-finishing Reserve that needs another couple of years or even a decade to reveal its true elegance, finesse and terroir character. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022."

98/100James Suckling

"Hard to believe that this was bottled after 28 months maturation on the full lees, because it is so vivid, with a ton of dried herbs, plus caramelized peach and pear. Enormously deep and structured, but with a certain lightness of touch at the enormously long and enormously slatey finish. This gives you a very good idea how the great dry Mosel wines from before the First World War tasted. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification. Drink or hold."
