The 2023 vintage reflects a year of moderate warmth with consistent sunshine, leading to steady, well-paced ripening. Although temperatures weren’t extreme, the shift to warmer nights and milder days contributed to extended growing periods. This translated into wines that are strikingly fresh, with lower alcohol levels, vivid acidity, and vibrant character—brighter and more approachable compared to recent years.
Both red and white wines achieved impressive yields, the largest ever recorded for the estate, with terroir expression and balance shining through. For reds, comparisons to the 2017 vintage are apt, showcasing elegance and precision. Whites carry their hallmark freshness and minerality, further underscored by the decision to reduce the percentage of new oak due to the larger volumes produced.
The domaine features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine, and White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2023 Special Report.

What the critics say:
"Intense aromas of flintiness and bonfire smoke show reduction. Happily, dramatically diverse flavors compete for attention on the palate: verbena, pear peel, peony and Meyer lemon. Chevalier's characteristic delicacy is in play, as is its ramrod straight backbone of acidity. This should shape up beautifully over the next four to six years and will hold longer. This comes from the northern most section of the Grand Cru."
"The 2023 Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru has a well-defined, notably fresh bouquet with white peach and chamomile scents, gaining intensity with every swirl of the glass. The palate is well balanced and very concentrated, almost "thick" in texture with plenty of extract. Very persistent, very demonstrative - a serious Chevalier."
"Pale lemon in colour. Just a little reduction but predominantly the steely limestone core of Chevalier. The white fruit on the palate is actually quite flamboyant and it is certainly extremely long. A little whisper of grapefruit pervades at the finish. Tasted Oct 2024 ****"
