Optimal drinking window: Now - 2037
A scented, quietly seductive Margaux from a château that’s been on fine form for years. The nose is all violets, cassis and a flicker of graphite. The palate follows suit: supple black fruits, sleek tannins, a touch of cedar and that unmistakable Margaux finesse gliding through the finish.
2017 was a mixed year across Bordeaux, but Margaux escaped relatively well, and Siran made the most of it - freshness, precision and charm rather than sheer power, and all the better for it.
Siran is one of the Médoc’s oldest family-run properties, producing characterful, classically styled wines without the fanfare of some neighbours. This 2017 underlines why the château’s reputation has been steadily climbing: pure, graceful, and effortlessly drinkable.
What the critics say:
"The 2017 Siran has turned out beautifully. Dark and rich with tons of nuance, Siran is super expressive in 2017 in the mid-weight style of the vintage. Wild cherry, plum, dried flowers, mint, tobacco and smoke are all laced together in this pretty, inviting Margaux. "
"A tight, linear 2017 with compact fruit and seamless tannins that show length and beauty. Medium to full body. Lovely finish. Drinkable now, but better in 2021 and onwards."
