A cracking Langoa from a truly hedonistic Left Bank vintage. Everything you love about 2009 is here, but with the Barton family’s trademark restraint keeping it poised rather than blowsy.
A real sweet spot in the Barton stable with another decade (or more) easily in hand.
Langoa Barton already belonged to the Barton family when it was awarded 3rd Classified Growth status in the 1855 classification. Along with the owners of Mouton-Rothschild, the Bartons are proud to be the longest-standing family of winemakers in Bordeaux.
The 20 hectares (49 acres) of Château Langoa Barton are planted in gravelly soils with a clay subsoil. The planting ratio is composed of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, the traditional Médoc grape varieties. The vines are on average 37 years old.
What the critics say:
"Lots of new wood here, maybe too dominant. But it is a stage, because the fruit weight is also there to give a wine of considerable complexity, dry and solid."
"Lovely aromatics, welcoming and enticing. A little more reserved on the palate than you might expect, this could do with a good long carafe if drinking now, to fully maximise the brambled blackberry fruits, star anise, cinnamon and tobacco leaf. Anthony Barton director at the time, working alongside his daughter Lilian."
