Château Giscours sits in the heart of Margaux, where elegance meets power on gravelly soils that have been making wine since the 14th century. This third growth estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blends that capture Margaux's famous perfume whilst adding their own muscular backbone.

"A fabulous Giscours this year really showcasing the effort and work that's been going on at this estate. Deep and dark nose with blackcurrant leaf, dark chocolate, violets, purple flowers, a medicinal herbal element, mint and cinnamon - but so delicate and precise. Really refined aromatics. So sleek and silky with perfectly balanced tannins that give support but don't overwhelm. Amazing depth and layering here, so well balanced and executed with plenty of concentration but dark and brooding, not heavy or sunny – cool and calm but focused and determined too. Extremely Margaux without any extremes. This really represents the personality of the vintage with Bordeaux energy, tension, focus, juiciness, freshness, ripe and structured ripeness carried by acidity. 3.68pH. A yield of 30hl/ha."
The Giscours vineyard sits on classic Margaux terroir: deep gravel beds laid down by ancient rivers, providing excellent drainage whilst retaining just enough clay subsoil to nourish the vines during dry spells. This combination of warm gravel and cool clay creates the tension between power and elegance that defines great Margaux. The proximity to the Gironde estuary moderates temperature swings, extending the growing season and allowing for gradual, even ripening that preserves the aromatic complexity for which this commune is famous.
Margaux is the most ethereal of the Left Bank appellations, prizing elegance and perfume over the sheer power found in Pauillac or Saint-Estèphe. The appellation's gravel soils are among the finest in Bordeaux, creating wines with silky tannins and extraordinary aromatic complexity. Unlike its more muscular neighbours, Margaux wines are built for grace, developing haunting secondary aromas of violets, cedar, and tobacco leaf as they mature. The appellation includes 21 classified growths, more than any other commune in the Médoc.
The 2025 Bordeaux vintage emerged from one of the most demanding growing seasons in recent memory — the earliest budbreak since 1989, June temperatures second only to 2003 since records began, and an unusually early harvest beginning in August for the whites. Conditions that should have produced heavy, overripe wines. They didn't. Decanter's Georgie Hindle, who tasted close to 200 wines ahead of the formal campaign, describes "exceptional concentration, aromatic purity and a freshness that contradicts the record-breaking heat.
The early critical consensus places 2025 stylistically between the precision of 2020 and the structure of 2016, with the brightness of 2023 — a combination that suggests a very serious vintage indeed. Yields are dramatically low, the smallest crop since 1991, with production across the Gironde running around 15% below the five-year average. The quality is here. There simply isn't very much of it.
