Château Angélus is one of the names people always come back to in Saint-Émilion, known for its rich, polished style built on Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The wines are generous and layered, with plenty of dark fruit, a touch of spice and that signature silky texture that makes them so appealing.
The 2020 vintage was warm and dry, with low yields and small, concentrated berries. That combination brings real depth and structure, but importantly there’s still enough freshness to keep everything in balance — a vintage that should age very well.
What the critics say:
"The flagship from this great estate, the 2020 Château Angelus checks in as 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc that spent 22 months in new barrels. It’s darker and more concentrated compared to the 2019, offering beautiful, medium to full-bodied aromas and flavors of redcurrants, black raspberries, sandalwood, spring flowers, and smoked tobacco. With just about flawless balance, it's not the blockbuster style of a decade ago, but it has gorgeous purity, ultra-fine tannins, a round, seamless mouthfeel, and a great, great finish. It's very much in the classic, balanced, structured style of the vintage, and a solid 7-8 years of bottle age are recommended. It will have 30+ years of prime drinking."
"Sweet tobacco and black olives with some basil and terra cotta. Violets and dark berries, too. Very fine and linear with freshness and beauty. Full and very tight with beautiful depth. It goes on for a very long time. Best after 2025, but seductive now."
