The wines from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard have a clear purity and minerality as well as a lovely weight and richness of fruit. Céline Fontaine and her husband Fred Robert (formerly of Armand Rousseau) specialise in whites, and over the past decade have raised their stock exponentially.
Céline has introduced using only natural yeast and prefers to age the top cru’s slightly longer in tank, meaning they age more slowly in bottle than we saw previously. This is a well-regarded estate which has moved into its next epoch and with quality only on the rise, there is a lot to love about all of their wines.
"The 2020 is more serious. 2022 is more charming. The reds are like 2019, for the easy ripeness, but the structure is more like 2020. What impresses me about this vintage is the concentration.”

"The 2022 Chassagne-Montrachet La Boudriotte ler Cru has a crisp and precise bouquet, very focused with seamlessly integrated oak, crushed limestone and petrichor scents percolating through the yellow fruit. The palate is very well-balanced, with a slightly honeyed opening. It's one of the richer cuvees by taste, though analytically, it has very good acidity and 13% alcohol. Fans out wonderfully on the finish. Excellent."
"Juicy and ripe, with luscious citrus fruit and fresh acidity. Finishes with some sapidity."
"An expressive nose freely offers up its array of various white orchard fruit, petrol and rosemary oil scents. Here too there is good volume to the medium-bodied and fleshy flavors that also coat the palate with dry extract on the clean, dry and lingering finish. This needs better depth but that should reasonably occur with a few years of cellaring. 'Outstanding'"
