Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Vincent and Francois Jouard, 2020
- White Still
- Chardonnay
Brothers Vincent and François Jouard lead this family estate with Vincent managing the vineyards and François overseeing the cellar.
Their passion for cultivating their ancestral property in Chassagne-Montrachet is evident, as they prioritise honouring the land's terroir. Embracing sustainable farming practices, they employ extensive ploughing to eliminate the need for chemical weeding. Focusing solely on their oldest vines, aged 50 years and above, Jouard produces a limited number of cases each year, contributing to a growing waiting list. The synergy of complex soils and mature vines culminates in elegant, expressive wines brimming with vitality and finesse.
The 2020 vintage showcases a crisp minerality, high acidity, and slightly lower alcohol content, allowing the distinctive characteristics of their terroirs to shine through.
Drinking window: 2023 - 2030
What the critics say:
"The 2020 Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes has a fresh and vibrant nose with citrus peel, orange pith and yellow flower scents. The palate is well balanced with crisp acidity, a little reduced with a pithy finish reminiscent of a Jean-Noël Gagnard. Good substance here - I can see this ageing nicely."
