Likened to Armand Rousseau by Neal Martin and one to watch, rising star Xavier Horiot's reclamation of Domaine Launay-Horiot must be one of the most remarkable stories in the Côte d’Or. These are absolutely up there with the best red Burgundies being produced in Pommard and Chambertin.
From a tiny 0.16ha parcel located next to the vines of Lalou Bize-Leroy (!), this is a serious, pedigreed Chambertin that expresses the terroir beautifully. The only downside is the tiny amount produced.
What the critics say:
"A fine purple, far from the deepest. The bouquet has to get past a fractional reduction then delivers a great weight of black raspberry fruit, with lift and life. Albeit in a grander idiom than many, the Launay-Horiot 2024 Chambertin has a sense of balance and grandeur, still with enough tannin in the structure to ensure longevity. Going to be a fine result. Drink from 2034-2040. Tasted Nov 2025. *4/5 stars*"
"Impressively, this tastes like a wine from a more concentrated vintage, but Xavier’s finessed style is very much in evidence. Highly perfumed, with oodles of ripe black fruits, savory spices, dark chocolate and flamed orange peel, this couples magnitude with brightness. The fruit core is firm and engaging with confidently sculpted tannins and vaulting acidity. The finish is hauntingly long with crushed graphite and clove. Like in Latricières, these vines were planted in 1954."
