Only a truly extraordinary harvest can produce Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG Castello Romitorio: from the beginning of its activity, the company has only produced a few vintages of the wine.
2013 is widely regarded as a standout year in Montalcino, marked by a cooler growing season that produced wines of freshness, balance and real ageing potential. The Riservas, in particular, show superb precision and depth, echoing the best of the region’s traditional style.
The grapes are strictly selected by hand from the oldest vineyards of the company, which are located in the northern area of Montalcino. The wine ages in oak for about 36 months and after bottling it is aged in the controlled-temperature cellars of Castello Romitorio for about 24 months before being put on the market.
What the critics say:
"The beautiful Castello Romitorio 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva shows deep and savory intensity with elegantly balanced aromatic intensity. The bouquet is redolent of dark cherry aromas with dried blackberry that segue to spice, leather, tobacco and balsam herb. The wine shows medium weight with long and polished tannins that add to the length and persistency of this unique and pretty expression. Give the wine a few more years to unwind and relax in the bottle."
"Medium bright red. Pure, musky aromas of redcurrant, sour red cherry, flint, cinnamon, and earth tones. At once dense and juicy, with a light touch to the sweet, red fruit and floral flavors. Finishes taut and long, but with ripe tannins and persistent notes of flint and red fruit."
