It was wonderful to host Carolina Supino of Castello di Neive, one of my earliest references in Barbaresco twenty years ago, at Tozi for a tour around her family's vineyards. I can't recommend these wines enough, not only for my own fond memories of the estate, but because they are hard to come by and offer excellent value too. The whole range performed beautifully on the night, but three stood out in particular.

In the Case

Castello di Neive, Barbaresco Santo Stefano, 2020, 2x75cl

Neive. Youthful mid ruby. Savoury rather than fruity and still very closed. Strikingly different on the palate with supple, long and deep cherry fruit framed by fine, long tannins that fit the whole like a glove. Gorgeous balance and chew. 17.5 Points, Jancis Robinson

Castello di Neive, Barbera d'Alba, Santo Stefano, 2023, 2x75cl

Bright cherry and violet on the nose, then that rush of Barbera acidity on the palate — vivid, mouthwatering, and completely at ease with food. The Santo Stefano site adds a little more structure than you might expect, and the whole thing finishes clean and long. Hard to put down.

Castello di Neive, Arneis, Langhe Montebertotto, 2024, 2x75cl

The Montebertotto vineyard sits in a cooler pocket of the Langhe, and you can taste it. White peach, citrus peel, and a stony, limestone-edged finish that lifts the whole thing and keeps you going back. Arneis at its most alive.

OUR GROWERS

Castello di Neive

Castello di Neive has been in the Stupino family since 1964, farming some of Barbaresco's finest sites with meticulous attention to tradition. They're known for elegant, perfumed wines that express Nebbiolo's aristocratic character rather than its more muscular side. The estate combines old-school Piemontese winemaking with modern precision in the vineyard.
