Lorenza and Marco Pallanti of Castello di Ama have been crafting wines in Tuscany since the 1970s, centered around the hamlet of Ama, which sits at an elevation of 450-550 meters. Their wines are celebrated for their elegance and freshness, combined with natural intensity and depth. As Galloni observes, Castello di Ama has "crafted some of the most riveting wines in Tuscany... simply put, there are few estates in Italy at this level."

Pioneering in their approach, the Pallantis introduced temperature-controlled vats decades ago, enabling vinification by individual plots (a practice that many in Bordeaux have only recently adopted).

Their Casuccia is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, from three individual plots singled out for their exceptional quality. The first vintage was in 1985 and it is only made in minuscule quantities when Ama think the quality is high enough – since the turn of the millennium, it has only been made 10 times.

OUR GROWERS

Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama's origins trace back to Etruscan times, a testament to the enduring connection between this land and human creativity. Ama was owned by the Firidolfi family during the Holy Roman Empire. The medieval castle that once graced these grounds fell during the Aragonese invasions in the 15th century. In the early 1700s, new villas rose from the same stones, marking the birth of the Castello di Ama estate.
