From the fabled Antinori portfolio, Pian delle Vigne "is a wine to watch" according to the Wine Advocate's Monica Larner. Located just outside of Montalcino, Antinori needs little introduction and their venture into Brunello has been another success story.

The 2021 vintage in Tuscany, and particularly in Montalcino, is widely regarded as outstanding for Brunello di Montalcino. A balanced growing season set the tone: a mild spring ensured healthy flowering, summer brought warmth without prolonged extremes, and cooler nights toward harvest preserved acidity and aromatic freshness. Crucially, rainfall arrived at the right moments, avoiding stress and allowing Sangiovese to ripen slowly and evenly. The resulting Brunellos combine ripe, expressive fruit with precision and energy.

What the critics say:

94/100Eric Guido, Vinous

"The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino wafts up with a pretty blend of citrus-tinged blackberries, violets and sweet spice. Textures of pure silk and cooling acidity beautifully complement racy red and black fruits. I love the momentum and purity here. It leaves a steely mineral concentration to mingle with fine tannins and inner rose tones. Year after year, Pian delle Vigne continues to improve through its graceful lift."

94/100James Suckling

"A lush and ripe wine with plums, black cherries, spices, chocolate and pressed violets on the nose. Firm, chalky tannins on the palate, with a medium to full body and crisp acidity. Tight, floral finish. Try from 2028."
