Bodega Chacra was created back in 2003 when Piero Incisa della Rochetta, the Grandson of the late, great marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta tasted a wine from the region in a New York restaurant and instantly saw the full potential. The estate originally consisted of a single plot, planted way back in 1932, which had been simply abandoned. Other sites soon followed, also composed of old vines (planted in 1955 and 1967), all 290-330m elevation above sea level.
The remote, isolated vineyards are naturally disease resistant and farmed biodynamically, with the reds allowed to mature slowly in up to 20% new Burgundian oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. With 99 points, Bodega Chacra Pinot Noir "32" 2023 features in James Suckling's top 100 wines of 2024.
What the critics say:
"Violets, black cherries, raspberries, crushed stone and orange blossoms. Notes of flower stems, dried sand and bark. Medium- to full-bodied with layers of fine tannins that fill the mouth, giving a crunchiness and open chewiness that reminds me of fine cashmere. Bright and lively. At the end it’s like a freshly cut orange just at the right ripeness. Drink or hold."
