The 2023 vintage reflects a year of moderate warmth with consistent sunshine, leading to steady, well-paced ripening. Although temperatures weren’t extreme, the shift to warmer nights and milder days contributed to extended growing periods. This translated into wines that are strikingly fresh, with lower alcohol levels, vivid acidity, and vibrant character—brighter and more approachable compared to recent years.
Both red and white wines achieved impressive yields, the largest ever recorded for the estate, with terroir expression and balance shining through. For reds, comparisons to the 2017 vintage are apt, showcasing elegance and precision. Whites carry their hallmark freshness and minerality, further underscored by the decision to reduce the percentage of new oak due to the larger volumes produced.
Drinking window: 2026 - 2038
What the critics say:
"The 2023 Beaune Perrieres 1er Cru is picked as their kosher wine, with two-thirds made as such and one-third non-kosher made by Domaine de Montille. This has an attractive bouquet with cranberry and raspberry fruit, quite minerally like the Les Sizies. The palate is medium-bodied with a pastille-like purity on the entry, fine depth of flavor with good grip on the finish. Give this a couple of years in bottle."
"Attractive but not too deep in colour. More floral, then juicy riper red fruit, strawberry and raspberry, just enough acidity. Medium length. One third whole bunches. Tasted Oct 2024."
