Barolo Castiglione Falletto, Anna Maria Abbona, 2017
Barolo Castiglione Falletto, Anna Maria Abbona, 2017
- Red Still
- Nebbiolo
Although Dogliani is not home to Barolo vineyards, it lies just a stone’s throw from Monforte d'Alba, one of the premier villages for Barolo alongside Castiglione Falletto.
The vineyards in this region sit at lower altitudes, making them ideal for cultivating the Nebbiolo grape and producing Barolo. With vines aged between 35 and 50 years, the area yields exceptional fruit that embodies the signature style of Castiglione Falletto wines. This red wine is truly distinguished, offering captivating aromas of violets and tar, interwoven with a hint of raw meat. On the palate, it is full-bodied and generous, with vibrant acidity and bold, well-structured tannins.
In short, this is a superb wine—rich, elegant, and perfectly suited for hearty winter casseroles or a classic Sunday roast.

What the critics say:
"Part of a growing group of comune-specific wines, the Anna Maria Abbona 2017 Barolo del Comune di Castiglione Falletto reveals silky notes of wild berry fruit, tart cherry, bitter almond and grilled herb. The wine is bright and lively, although the warm growing season contributes to the wine's open-knit and more accessible personality (and its 15% alcohol content). The fruit is sourced from a three-hectare site at a lower and warmer 250 meters in altitude."
