There is a new dawn rising in in Bordeaux, with many growers moving towards sustainable farming, and very much at the helm of this movement are twin brothers Laurent & David Siozard, the wonderful sixth generation team behind Vignobles Siozard. The brothers run two domaines - Château du Claouset and Château Lapinesse - with prize vineyards in the heart of the Entre-Deux-Mers, sat opposite the legendary limestone plateau of Saint-Emilion, and also on some of the finest Left Bank terroirs in Graves, Sauternes and Barsac. Here they produce a fabulous range of wines, but with renewed focus on terroir expression and sustainable vineyard management.
They made the switch to Terra Vitis in 2016, something all the more impressive given the challenges of moving to sustainable viticulture in Bordeaux. The results frankly speak for themselves, and they are now making some absolutely incredible wines that capture the heart and soul of Bordeaux.
The wine
Winemaking embraces modernity whilst remaining commendably old school, with the Siozards even resurrecting ancient Bordeaux grapes. Some of their single varietal wines include Malbec, Carmenère, Petit Verdot, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle, and these are unlike anything else being produced in the region. The good news is that prices remain eminently sensible, so here’s a rare opportunity to add some superb drinking Bordeaux to your collection. Enjoy!
