After the success of the new vintage releases from Valdicava, we have gone back to the estate to see what else is in the cellar and we’ve uncovered some gems…
PierFilippo has generously made available a selection of maturing back vintage large formats from excellent years which we can offer at market-leading prices. Now is the time to place your orders as we will add these to the pallet with the new releases, with the aim to ship in time for Christmas.
The Abruzzese family were founding members of the Brunello di Montalcino Consorzio in 1967, and today, Vincenzo and his son Pierfilippo continue the legacy with the same commitment to excellence. Valdicava is widely regarded as one of the region’s top producers with more 100-point (JS) scores than any other, and there is no denying the cult status the winery enjoys today. Robert Parker said there is "... a strong argument can be made that Valdicava is among the top three or four Brunello di Montalcino producers".
This boutique 10-hectare estate at the foot of Montosoli works with top consultants Attilio Pagli and Andrea Paoletti, producing just 6,000 cases a year thanks to extremely low yields. The dedication to quality is second to none with the estate electing to bottle no Riserva in 2017 or 2018, nor even producing an estate Brunello in 2018! Their flagship wine, the single-vineyard Madonna del Piano Riserva, is considered “one of the great wines of Tuscany, if not Italy” according to James Suckling.
