Tucked away in Castelnuovo Berardenga, right in the heart of Chianti Classico, San Giorgio A Lapi has a history that stretches all the way back to 1109, when the San Giorgino church was founded. Over the centuries, the monastery saw its fair share of ups and downs—abandoned and destroyed in the 15th and 16th centuries before making a comeback in the 18th century with the construction of the San Giorgino oratory on its ruins.
Fast forward to today, and the estate is in the hands of the Simoni family. Aldo Simoni, bringing his winemaking expertise from Trentino, recognised the potential of the land and set out to craft wines that truly reflect their origin. The winery takes a minimal intervention approach, carefully vinifying each vineyard and plot separately before blending after aging.
