Tenuta Il Poggione is a historic Brunello di Montalcino estate founded in the late 19th century by Lavinio Franceschi in Sant’Angelo in Colle, and was a founding member of the Brunello Consortium, helping set the region’s quality standards. The estate covers around 530–600 ha, with 125–140 ha of vines planted mainly to Sangiovese, including iconic parcels like Vigna Paganelli. Vineyards sit between 150–450 m above sea level, benefiting from a temperate microclimate influenced by Mount Amiata and the Tyrrhenian Sea.

The Wine

Winemaking combines tradition and modern care: hand harvesting, controlled fermentation, and long aging in large oak barrels preserve varietal clarity and structure. Still family‑run today, Il Poggione produces wines — from Rosso di Montalcino to Brunello Riserva — celebrated for their balance, longevity, and classic Sangiovese character, making it a benchmark in the appellation.
