In 1457, Jean Guillotte le Verrier donated vines to the newly founded Hôtel-Dieu in Beaune, setting in motion a tradition of generosity that continues to this day. Donating vines to the Hospices has always been more than symbolic—it’s a way of giving thanks, supporting the institution’s future, and becoming part of its history. Each wine, or cuvée, proudly bears the name of its benefactor.
In 2017, a donation from Domaine Bernard Clerc saw Puligny-Montrachet join the Hospices auction for the first time, adding to a line-up that includes Beaune, Pommard, Volnay, Meursault, Savigny, Corton, Mazis-Chambertin, Echezeaux, and Clos de la Roche.
The Hospices de Beaune charity auction is held every year on the third weekend of November, where we crowdfund barrels of these bucket-list wines. We select the cuvées, organise the syndicate, and oversee the élevage, giving Club Members access to rare, top-quality Burgundy that would normally only be available to those buying whole barrels (which we can also arrange).
Over the years, we’ve partnered with some of Burgundy’s most celebrated winemakers—including De Montille, Jane Eyre, and Delaunay—to bring our members outstanding Hospice cuvées. Quite simply, there’s nothing more special we do than offering the chance to take part in these annual syndicates.
