A sort of Montrachet of Champagne” Jancis Robinson

This is the way I think Krug SHOULD taste” Robert Parker

Some of the most unique, individualistic wines in Champagne… At their best, the Giraud Champagnes offer incredible intensity" Antonio Galloni

With 20 hectares of Grand Cru vineyards in Äy—10 of them prized, south-facing plots—Henri Giraud crafts rich, Pinot Noir–driven Champagnes fermented and aged in oak from the nearby Argonne forest. This unique approach gives the wines their signature power and depth, with Jancis Robinson aptly comparing them to Grand Cru Montrachet. All the wines but especially the top cuvées are broad, swaggering and hedonistic yet have soul and vinous poetry at their core.

The youngest vines are 40 years old, rooted in chalk beneath a dusting of topsoil, and farming is low-intervention. Production is tiny: just 4,000–8,000 bottles of their top cuvée Argonne each year (only 800 of the 2012 Rosé!), making mature vintages and large formats nearly impossible to find. To mark their 400th anniversary, Giraud has released a rare allocation of library magnums and jeroboams—some of which aren’t available anywhere else. Before 2002, the top cuvée was Fût de Chêne; since then, it’s been split into Argonne (vintage) and MV (multi-vintage).
