The 2021 Marqués de Murrieta has 96 points from Beth Willard at Decanter — the highest score she's given the estate — 95 from Luis Gutiérrez at the Wine Advocate, who calls 2021 "one of the legendary vintages of the region," and 94 each from Suckling and Joaquín Hidalgo. Bear in mind we're talking about a wine that is less than £20 a bottle!
The estate has quietly dropped the "Reserva" designation on this release — not because the wine doesn't qualify, but because they'd rather the liquid speak for itself. Founded in 1852 at Finca Ygay, Murrieta has become one of Rioja's most precise addresses under Vicente Dalmau — less oak-driven than it once was, more focused on freshness, structure and fruit clarity. The 2021 is the vintage that brings all of that together.
