From benchmark St Émilion Grand Cru Château Teyssier to icons Pontet Labrie and Le Dôme, Jonathan Maltus (with help of head winemaker Neil Whyte) has one of the most formidable ranges in Bordeaux and beyond, yet the wines always bear the Maltus stamp: his trademark “cashmere” tannins wrapped around a core rich, succulent fruit.
Drinking window: 2025 - 2040
What the critics say:
"The first time this cuvée has been bottled all kosher, the 2022 Les Astéries is an 80/20 split of Merlot and Cabernet Franc that comes from more hard-packed limestone soils. It has a pure, pretty bouquet of ripe blue fruits as well as some floral and mineral nuances. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, focused, straight, nicely structured Saint-Emilion with ripe tannins and outstanding length."
"Vibrant ruby red in colour, with a chalky edge to the tannins that gives welcome contrast and relief. The limestone influence is clear, and it's a luscious, well-judged wine. 80% new oak, 3.65PH. This is now a private label wine."
