The Mastrojanni Estate is situated in the south-east corner of the Montalcino region, set apart up a dirt road from the village of Castelnuovo dell\'Abate. The wines are traditional and terroir-driven and the winery eschews the use of barriques as one might expect from such traditionalists. Having been purchased by coffee giants Illy, the estate has enjoyed even greater success in recent years and is now rated in the top 10 in the region.

What the critics say:

92/100James Suckling

"Plenty of dried fruits on the nose with cedar and flowers that follow through to a full body, layered tannins and an intense finish. Hints of raisins. Drink or hold."

92/100Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"Mastrojanni's 2013 Brunello di Montalcino reveals a very precise and focused aromatic profile. This is a signature touch from this outstanding estate that, year in and year out, produces some of the best Brunello you can buy. Wild berries and cherries rise from the bouquet in an elegant flutter. Those tones are followed by spice, leather, rosemary and medicinal herb. The wine is streamlined, polished and smooth in terms of mouthfeel."

OUR GROWERS

Mastrojanni

Stylistically the estate represents a rounder, more traditional style of Brunello, with ripe, generous tannins and deep concentrated fruit. The vines are in their golden age, reaching their "prime production" according to Monica Larner and revealing hauntingly profound expressions of Sangiovese.
